Habitat: On soil, buried wood or occasionally on sawdust, especially in woodland on calcareous soils.

Notes: Rarely reported. Known from England (from Yorkshire southwards) and Wales (Flintshire and Monmouthshire). Macroscopically variable and split into several taxa by some authors.
