Habitat: On acidic or sandy soil, often associated with Betula and Pinus spp; also reported with Castanea, Fagus, Salix spp. and Picea abies. Said by Orton [TBMS 43: 217 (1960)] to be 'particularly abundant in damp woods with willows and alders.'.
Notes: Rarely reported but apparently widespread.
