Habitat: On acidic soils, with deciduous trees such as Fagus, Quercus and Betula spp., in woodland and on heathland. Fruiting from late summer onwards.

Notes: Very common and widespread. Supposedly poisonous and causing gastrointestinal upsets if consumed.
