Habitat: On soil near to trees or in open woodland. Known with Betula, Corylus and Quercus spp., also Larix and Pinus spp.

Notes: Rarely recorded or collected and often confused with similar taxa, especially P. spumosa. Known from England (Cheshire, Co. Durham, East Kent, Leicestershire, North Hampshire, North Yorshire and Surrey) and Wales (Flintshire). Excludes P. mixta sensu Rea (1922) with very large spores, this possibly referable to P. albocrenulata but no material has been traced.
