Habitat: Most frequently associated with Betula spp., in deciduous woodland or on heathland. Also with Castanea, Fagus or Quercus spp., and with conifers such as Larix, Picea and Pinus spp. Also known from downland on calcareous soil, associated with Helianthemum nummularium.

Notes: Very common and widespread.
